Window Blind Choices

Room Darkening Shades

Keeping The Room Cool Is A Priority

One of the most important things you can do to make your house very comfortable is give your self the ability to control the light in a room, by which is meant sunlight that can become very bright during the summer. Luckily there are now a wide range of room darkening shades available which can really cut down on the amount of sunlight in the room, and make the room very comfortable indeed. This article will take a look at some of the things you need to consider before buying room darkening blinds for your home.

One of the most common types of room darkening blinds is the traditional Venetian blind, especially the metallic type, which has the 1 inch strips, or slightly larger strips at around one and half inches. These close very tightly and cut out practically all the light, and when you take a look at some of the remote-controlled Venetian blind models you will see that they also enable you to control the light to a very small degree without even getting up from your armchair.

In many ways these could be seen as blackout blinds, because they can't cut almost all the sunlight out although one of the main factors you need to consider should be whether or not these have UV protection, in which case they will probably be known as a UV blind. This can greatly add to your comfort, especially when you know you're getting protection from the harmful effects of sunlight.

One of the more traditional room darkening blinds are the bamboo type, which can add some lovely sun patterns in the room, and freely create a feeling of comfort. They will not make the room totally dark, but this is usually enough for you to watch a movie doing the middle of the day. Bamboo patio blinds can be a great choice, since they can be rolled down very easily. Roller blinds can be used in the same way, but bamboo does have the edge in that it in parts a very traditional and natural look to a room.

Automatic shades

For an excellent room darkening blind, there is the ivory room darkening blind from Easy Touch, with dimensions of 36" x 64". These are automatic shades, pleated to give excellent room darkening. Movement is touch-button, while the shades are insulated for energy efficiency. For a more luxury feel, 2" sheer room darkening shades provide room darkening as deep as roller shades, with a maximum blind width of 96".

It can also be worthwhile to look at velvet blackout curtain panel shades from Maytex Mills. Costing about $25, these can be used as home theater curtains, since they black out light and act as sound insulation curtains. Measuring 40" x 84", these thick red curtains cover most window sizes, with the white foam backing providing heat insulation.

Patio window styles

The type of blind you choose will have a great effect on the design, and that is why you need to choose with care. This is especially true if you have a very large window, and you need to check out whether or not the shades you decide upon will fit a wide window, or one that has a very large drop, such as a patio window. A good choice can be the range of mini blinds that are now available, many of which are available in many different materials, including vinyl, plastic, bamboo, and even metal. These are extremely easy to install, and because of the design do not add an overbearing look on the room.

Overall, the main thing you need to consider is whether or not you want to make the room totally dark, or whether you want a certain amount of control over the amount of light coming through the window. If a total room darkening shade is what you want then roller blinds can be the best choice. If you want some control Venetian blinds can be an excellent way to achieve this, particularly remote control versions.

The idea about using very tightly woven bamboo blinds as a way of darkening the room is a great one, and one I would never have thought about before reading this article. It really has opened my eyes to some great design ideas.
